Check us out.

A lot has been going on in the summer months for the Deep Powder House. We have been busy working on our 4th store right at the foot of the Wasatch. It is a bit of a change from being Alta exclusive for so long, but we are loving the new surroundings. We have a shiny new 5,200 square foot store full of everything you can expect to see at the Deep Powder House ski shops. Top of the line equipment and friendly faces. We also bought ourselves a little gift. Well…It is for you too. A state of the art Ski Tuning machine the Montana Challenge. In between getting our store open and ready. We have been playing around with patterns and edge bevels to get your skis the best tune ever! Come check out the new spot and think snow. Check out the link to see the new machine from Montana.

New Store is located at 3138 E 6200 S in Salt lake City, UT.

Custom Footbeds

The Powder House Ski Shops recommend that every skier invest in a pair of custom footbeds. I often tell customers that buying a ski boot without purchasing a custom footbed is a little like buying a Porsche and saving money by driving on cheap tires…you will never experience its full performance. The benefits of custom footbeds are two fold: First, skiers will notice increased power and responsiveness from their ski boots, and secondly they will experience enhanced comfort. Continue reading

Ski Shop Zen

Time to Die (A Zen Story)

Matt, a Zen boot fitting master, was very clever even as a boy. His teacher, Wally, had a precious pair of ski boots, they were rare antiques. Wally was very attached to his ski boots because they were so comfortable. Matt, as Wally’s student, happened to ruin these precious ski boots and was greatly perplexed. Hearing the footsteps of his teacher approaching, he hid the ruined boots. When his master appeared, Matt asked: “Why do people have to die?”

“This is natural” explained the older, wiser man. “Everything has to die and has just so long to live.” Matt, producing the ruined ski boots, added: “It was time for your boots to die.”

Words of Wisdom

Matt says: “Is it time for your gear to die? Do not nurse along old gear for fear of change and discomfort, the Zen masters at the Powder House Ski Shops will be happy to take you down the path of enlightenment.”

…And remember as Confucius says “It doesn’t matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop”… especially on the High Traverse.

Boot Fitting Basics

Ski boots are undeniably the best and worst piece of equipment. Nothing will ruin a day on the slopes faster than a cheap rental boot that was improperly fit by some young-gun rental technician in a hurry to get you out the door. A proper fitting boot will deliver unparalleled performance; increasing energy transfer, power, and control over your skis. Unfortunately skiers of all abilities must decide whether or not to sacrifice comfort for performance. The good news is that now you can have your cake and eat it too! The Masterfit Certified Boot Fitters at all of the Powder House Ski Shop locations have the experience and ability to customize a ski boot to match your unique anatomy and biomechanics. We find that an educated consumer is the best consumer. So what should someone interested in owning their own boots know about? Continue reading
